Description

Air Fryer Light Churros are a healthier twist on the classic fried treat—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and cooked to golden perfection without deep frying. They’re quick, easy, and just as satisfying with a dusting of cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter or margarine
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Neutral oil spray (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the water, butter, salt, and 1 tablespoon sugar over medium heat until boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the flour all at once until a thick dough forms and pulls away from the sides.
  3. Let the dough cool slightly, then beat in the eggs one at a time until smooth and glossy.
  4. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  6. Pipe strips or shapes onto a parchment-lined tray.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Place churros in the air fryer basket, spacing them slightly apart. Spray lightly with oil if desired.
  9. Air fry for 10–12 minutes until golden and puffed.
  10. While still warm, roll the churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
  11. Serve immediately for best texture.

Notes

  • Preheat the air fryer for crispier results.
  • Spraying with oil helps browning.
  • Use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped if you don’t have a piping bag.
  • Churros are best served fresh but can be reheated in the air fryer.
  • Freeze the dough, not the cooked churros, for future use.
