Description

Augapfel Cupcakes, or ‘eyeball cupcakes,’ are spooky Halloween treats featuring vanilla cupcakes filled with red jam and decorated to look like realistic, bloodshot eyeballs. They’re fun to make and perfect for eerie dessert tables.


Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla cupcake mix (or homemade vanilla cupcake batter)
  • 12 teaspoons strawberry or raspberry jam
  • White frosting (buttercream or fondant-style)
  • 12 round candies (M&M’s or Smarties) for the iris
  • Black gel icing for the pupil
  • Red food coloring for veins

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the vanilla cupcakes according to the package or homemade recipe instructions. Let them cool completely.
  2. Use a knife or spoon to carve a small hole in the center of each cupcake.
  3. Fill each hole with 1 teaspoon of strawberry or raspberry jam to resemble a ‘bloody’ center.
  4. Frost the top of each cupcake evenly with white frosting.
  5. Press a round candy in the center of the frosting to form the iris.
  6. Add a small dot of black gel icing to the candy to create the pupil.
  7. Dip a toothpick in red food coloring and draw thin, squiggly lines from the center candy outward to create bloodshot veins.
