Ingredients
- 1 lb frozen French fries or fresh potatoes (cut into fries)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for baking or frying)
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or cheese blend
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
- Optional toppings: bacon bits, green onions, jalapeños, sour cream, ranch drizzle
Instructions
- Preheat oven and cook fries per package instructions or fry fresh-cut potatoes until golden and crisp. Season with salt.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened, about 2–3 minutes.
- Stir in shredded cheese, garlic powder, and paprika. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Pile cooked fries onto a plate or tray. Drizzle with cheese sauce.
- Add optional toppings if using. Serve immediately while hot and melty.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese for the smoothest sauce.
- Fries can be baked, fried, or air-fried based on preference.
- Top with your favorites like bacon, green onions, or jalapeños for a loaded version.
- Reheat sauce gently with a splash of milk to restore consistency.
- Best served fresh; reheat fries in an oven or air fryer for crispiness.
