Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tbsp pickle relish (optional)
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 bag (about 20 oz) frozen French fries
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional toppings: diced tomato, shredded lettuce, chopped pickles, extra ketchup or mustard for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 °F (200 °C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- In a skillet, brown ground beef with diced onion and garlic over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in ketchup, mustard, pickle relish (if using), paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Spread half the frozen fries in the bottom of the casserole dish.
- Layer the seasoned beef mixture over the fries.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the beef.
- Top with remaining fries and then the other 1 cup of cheese.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until fries are golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool for 5 minutes. Serve topped with optional tomato, lettuce, pickles, and extra sauces.
Notes
- Use gluten-free frozen fries and condiments if needed.
- Add jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy version.
- Tater tots make a fun substitute for fries.
- Pre-bake homemade fries before using in this casserole.
- Can be made ahead and baked fresh when needed.
