Description

Chicken Parmesan is a comforting Italian-American classic featuring crispy breaded chicken topped with rich marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. Golden on the outside and juicy inside, this hearty dish is perfect for family dinners or special occasions at home.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with grated Parmesan cheese.
  4. Dredge each piece of chicken in flour, dip into eggs, and coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the chicken for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer the browned chicken to a baking dish.
  7. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece and sprinkle generously with mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  9. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Bake the breaded chicken instead of frying for a lighter option.
  • Add garlic powder or dried oregano to the breadcrumb mixture for extra flavor.
  • Serve over pasta, zucchini noodles, or in toasted sandwich rolls.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze breaded cooked chicken separately for up to 2 months before adding sauce and cheese.
