Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
- Sprinkles or crushed candy canes (optional for decorating)
Instructions
- Cream softened butter and powdered sugar together until smooth and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and mix to combine.
- Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until dough forms. Chill dough for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out tree shapes with cookie cutter and place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Melt chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in short bursts until smooth.
- Dip each cooled cookie halfway into melted chocolate. Place on parchment paper and add sprinkles or crushed candy if desired.
- Let chocolate set completely before serving or storing.
