Description

Crispy Golden Crab Bites are crunchy, flavorful seafood appetizers made with tender lump crab meat, creamy filling, and a crispy breadcrumb coating. Perfect for parties or snacking, they can be fried or baked for golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz lump crab meat, drained and picked through
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/23/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • Oil for frying or cooking spray for baking

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine crab meat, cream cheese, mayo, mustard, green onions, garlic powder, Old Bay, lemon juice, and beaten egg. Mix gently.
  2. Add just enough panko breadcrumbs to bind the mixture, then chill for 20–30 minutes.
  3. Form into 1–2 tablespoon-sized balls or patties.
  4. Lightly dredge each in flour, then coat in additional panko breadcrumbs.
  5. To fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry crab bites for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. To bake: Place on a lined baking sheet, spray with oil, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  7. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Chilling the mixture helps it hold shape better when cooking.
  • Baking is a lighter option and still yields crispy results.
  • Crab bites can be frozen raw and cooked from frozen.
  • Customize with peppers, herbs, or hot sauce to suit your taste.
