Description
Crispy Golden Crab Bites are crunchy, flavorful seafood appetizers made with tender lump crab meat, creamy filling, and a crispy breadcrumb coating. Perfect for parties or snacking, they can be fried or baked for golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 8 oz lump crab meat, drained and picked through
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2–3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
- Oil for frying or cooking spray for baking
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine crab meat, cream cheese, mayo, mustard, green onions, garlic powder, Old Bay, lemon juice, and beaten egg. Mix gently.
- Add just enough panko breadcrumbs to bind the mixture, then chill for 20–30 minutes.
- Form into 1–2 tablespoon-sized balls or patties.
- Lightly dredge each in flour, then coat in additional panko breadcrumbs.
- To fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry crab bites for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- To bake: Place on a lined baking sheet, spray with oil, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 18–20 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.
Notes
- Chilling the mixture helps it hold shape better when cooking.
- Baking is a lighter option and still yields crispy results.
- Crab bites can be frozen raw and cooked from frozen.
- Customize with peppers, herbs, or hot sauce to suit your taste.
