Description

Thinly sliced onions baked into golden, crispy rounds with a savory Parmesan crust. These crunchy, cheesy onion ring chips are an easy baked alternative to traditional fried onion rings.


Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced into rings
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly brush or spray with olive oil.
  2. In a bowl, mix Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Separate onion slices into individual rings.
  4. Place small mounds of the Parmesan mixture onto the baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  5. Set one onion ring on top of each mound and gently press down.
  6. Lightly brush the tops of the onion rings with olive oil.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted, golden brown, and crispy around the edges.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes to firm up, then carefully remove with a spatula.
  9. Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan crisps better than pre-grated.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Reheat in oven or air fryer at 375°F (190°C) to maintain crispiness.
  • Naturally gluten-free with no flour or breadcrumbs.
