Description
Thinly sliced onions baked into golden, crispy rounds with a savory Parmesan crust. These crunchy, cheesy onion ring chips are an easy baked alternative to traditional fried onion rings.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced into rings
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (plus more for brushing)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly brush or spray with olive oil.
- In a bowl, mix Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Separate onion slices into individual rings.
- Place small mounds of the Parmesan mixture onto the baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Set one onion ring on top of each mound and gently press down.
- Lightly brush the tops of the onion rings with olive oil.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the cheese is melted, golden brown, and crispy around the edges.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes to firm up, then carefully remove with a spatula.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Freshly grated Parmesan crisps better than pre-grated.
- Add crushed red pepper flakes for heat.
- Reheat in oven or air fryer at 375°F (190°C) to maintain crispiness.
- Naturally gluten-free with no flour or breadcrumbs.
