Description
Decadent Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake is a luxurious breakfast casserole made with buttery croissants, rich chocolate, and a silky custard. It’s like a chocolate croissant meets bread pudding—perfect for brunch, holidays, or a cozy morning treat.
Ingredients
- 6 large croissants (day-old preferred), torn into large chunks
- 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or espresso powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the croissant pieces in the dish. Sprinkle with half the chocolate. Repeat with remaining croissants and chocolate.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, salt, and any optional spices until smooth.
- Pour custard evenly over croissants, pressing down gently so they soak it up.
- Let sit for 10–15 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until custard is set and top is golden.
- Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use day-old croissants for better texture—they soak up the custard without getting soggy.
- Add fruit like raspberries or sliced bananas between the layers for a fruity twist.
- To make individual servings, divide the mixture into buttered ramekins and adjust bake time to 20–25 minutes.
