Description

Decadent Chocolate Croissant Breakfast Bake is a luxurious breakfast casserole made with buttery croissants, rich chocolate, and a silky custard. It’s like a chocolate croissant meets bread pudding—perfect for brunch, holidays, or a cozy morning treat.

Ingredients

  • 6 large croissants (day-old preferred), torn into large chunks
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Layer half of the croissant pieces in the dish. Sprinkle with half the chocolate. Repeat with remaining croissants and chocolate.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, salt, and any optional spices until smooth.
  4. Pour custard evenly over croissants, pressing down gently so they soak it up.
  5. Let sit for 10–15 minutes or cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until custard is set and top is golden.
  7. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use day-old croissants for better texture—they soak up the custard without getting soggy.
  • Add fruit like raspberries or sliced bananas between the layers for a fruity twist.
  • To make individual servings, divide the mixture into buttered ramekins and adjust bake time to 20–25 minutes.
