Description
Flaky, bakery-style heart-shaped danishes filled with smooth cream cheese and sweet strawberry topping, perfect for brunch, holidays, or a special homemade treat.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into heart shapes. Lightly score a smaller heart inside each pastry without cutting all the way through.
- In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture inside the scored area of each pastry.
- Spoon strawberry jam over the cream cheese and top with sliced fresh strawberries.
- Whisk the egg with water to make an egg wash and brush it around the edges of the pastry.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the danishes are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
- Chill the shaped pastries briefly if the dough becomes too warm.
- Try raspberry or cherry preserves for a different flavor.
- Add lemon zest to the cream cheese for extra brightness.
- Reheat in the oven to maintain flakiness.
