Easy sausage and cabbage skillet is a one-pan, hearty meal made with smoked sausage, tender cabbage, onions, and garlic. It’s flavorful, low-carb, and perfect for quick weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 medium green cabbage, chopped or shredded
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • Optional: 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Optional: 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Optional: Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté onion until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add chopped cabbage, season with salt and pepper, and cook until it begins to wilt.
  5. Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and lightly browned.
  6. Return sausage to the skillet. Stir in vinegar or mustard if using. Cook 2–3 more minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve hot.

  • Add potatoes or sweet potatoes for a heartier dish.
  • Deglaze with broth or white wine for extra flavor.
  • Use savoy or napa cabbage for a softer texture.
  • Use spicy sausage or cayenne for heat.
