Ingredients
- 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
- 1 medium green cabbage, chopped or shredded
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Optional: 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- Optional: 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Optional: 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- Optional: Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté onion until softened. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add chopped cabbage, season with salt and pepper, and cook until it begins to wilt.
- Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and lightly browned.
- Return sausage to the skillet. Stir in vinegar or mustard if using. Cook 2–3 more minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with parsley if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- Add potatoes or sweet potatoes for a heartier dish.
- Deglaze with broth or white wine for extra flavor.
- Use savoy or napa cabbage for a softer texture.
- Use spicy sausage or cayenne for heat.
- Freezes well for up to 2 months.
