Description

These easy sugar cookies are soft, buttery, and lightly sweet with a tender texture that makes them perfect for everyday baking or decorating for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop or roll the dough into small balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Gently flatten each dough ball slightly.
  8. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough to prevent spreading.
  • Chilling the dough creates thicker cookies.
  • Slightly underbake for softer cookies.
