Description

This Egyptian Beef Goulash is a comforting, oven-baked dish made with ground beef, pasta, and warm spices. It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect for cozy family meals.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni or penne
  • 2 cups water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add onion and sauté until soft. Stir in garlic and cook briefly.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, pepper, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a baking dish, spread uncooked pasta. Pour beef sauce over the pasta, then add water or broth. Gently stir to combine.
  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil, stir, and bake uncovered for 10–15 more minutes until pasta is tender and top is set.
  6. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add chili flakes for heat or a splash of cream for extra richness.
  • Top with cheese before the final bake for a golden finish.
  • Use small pasta shapes that absorb sauce well.
