These Homemade Soft Breadsticks are warm, fluffy, and buttery with a golden crust. Perfect as a side for soup, salad, or pasta, they’re easy to make and even easier to love — pillowy inside, customizable, and always crowd-pleasing.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (for dough)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Stir and knead by hand or mixer for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let the dough rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a 6–8 inch rope.
- Place breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake breadsticks for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
- Brush hot breadsticks with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder or Parmesan, if using.
Notes
- Use bread flour for a chewier texture.
- Brush with butter and cover with a towel for extra softness.
- Add herbs or cheese to the dough for flavor variations.
- Shape into knots or twists for visual variety.
- Freeze after baking and reheat as needed.
