Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add olive oil, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir and knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Form dough into a ball, place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Punch down the dough, roll it out to a 10×12 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Sprinkle mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, and oregano over the dough. Roll tightly like a jelly roll.
- Place rolled dough seam-side down in loaf pan. Let rise for 20-30 minutes until slightly puffed.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Remove from oven and brush with melted butter. Cool for a few minutes, slice, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use different cheeses like cheddar or gouda for varied flavor.
- Enhance with fresh herbs like rosemary or basil.
- Mix in bacon bits, green onions, or roasted garlic for extra taste.
- Add red pepper flakes or spicy cheese for a heat kick.
