Description
Microwave Macaroni and Cheese is a creamy, comforting single‑serve meal made in minutes right in the microwave. It’s perfect for quick lunches, snacks, dorm cooking, or late‑night cravings.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup elbow macaroni (or other small pasta)
- About 3/4 cup water (enough to cover pasta by 1/2 inch)
- 2–3 tablespoons milk or half‑and‑half
- 1/3–1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or other melty cheese)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional mix‑ins: 1 teaspoon butter, garlic powder, paprika, hot sauce
Instructions
- Place pasta in a microwave‑safe mug or bowl. Add water to cover the pasta by about 1/2 inch.
- Microwave on high for 4–5 minutes, stopping every minute to stir and check water level. Add more water if it evaporates too quickly and continue microwaving until pasta is tender.
- If there’s excess water once the pasta is cooked, carefully drain it or spoon out a little. Return pasta to the bowl.
- Stir in milk, shredded cheese, salt, and pepper. Add optional butter or seasonings if using.
- Microwave for another 30–45 seconds until the cheese melts. Stir until smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning, then enjoy warm.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese for smoother melt; pre‑shredded works too.
- Add extra milk or a teaspoon of cream cheese for an even creamier texture.
- Mix in cooked veggies like broccoli or peas to boost nutrition.
- Top with breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for a bit of crunch.
- Double the recipe in a larger microwave‑safe bowl, adjusting cook times slightly.
