Ingredients
- 2 large onions, cut into thick rings
- 6–8 mozzarella cheese sticks, cut into pieces to fit inside onion rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying or cooking spray for baking
Instructions
- Separate onion slices into rings and match pairs of similar size.
- Place a piece of mozzarella stick between two onion rings to create a filled ring.
- Dip each ring in flour, then egg mixture (eggs + milk), and coat with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating for a thicker crust.
- To Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry rings for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
- To Bake: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), place rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray with cooking spray, and bake for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Serve hot with marinara or ranch dipping sauce.
Notes
- Double coat for a better seal and crispier texture.
- Try different cheeses like cheddar or pepper jack for variety.
- Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes as a lighter option.
- Reheat in oven or air fryer to maintain crispness.
