Description
A soft, fluffy homemade bread cooked entirely on the stovetop—no oven required. Golden on the outside and pillowy inside, it’s perfect for serving with soups, sauces, or simply with butter.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- ¾ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm water (not hot)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (plus more for cooking)
- Optional: butter for brushing, garlic or herbs for flavor
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and olive oil, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into 4–6 portions. Shape into balls and flatten into discs.
- (Optional) Let discs rest for 10–15 minutes for lighter texture.
- Heat a skillet over medium-low, brushing with oil. Cook each disc 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Flip once.
- Brush with butter and sprinkle with herbs or garlic if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Add garlic or herbs to the dough for extra flavor.
- Use warm milk instead of water for richer bread.
- Stuff with cheese, onions, or potatoes before cooking for filled breads.
- Works as a quick pizza base or sandwich wrap.
- Freeze with parchment between layers for easy storage.
