Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round or square baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Make a well in the center and add warm water, vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract.
- Stir with a spoon until the batter is smooth and no dry spots remain.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Add chocolate chips or espresso powder for deeper flavor.
- Swirl in peanut butter or add chopped nuts for variation.
- Top with ganache, cream cheese frosting, or powdered sugar.
- Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze slices for longer storage.
- Reheat individual slices in the microwave for 15–20 seconds.
