Description

Ingredients

  • 3 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar or 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Edible candy eyes or mini chocolate chips (for eyes)
  • Black decorating gel, melted chocolate, or mini chocolate chips (for noses)
  • White candy melts, mini marshmallows, or piped meringue dots (for ears)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (95°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Gradually add sugar, one spoonful at a time, beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  4. Mix in vanilla extract if using.
  5. Transfer meringue to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
  6. Pipe small mounds or swirls onto baking sheet to form bear faces.
  7. Press in candy eyes and a mini chocolate chip or gel dot for the nose.
  8. Attach ears using meringue dots, marshmallows, or candy melts.
  9. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until dry to the touch.
  10. Turn off oven and let meringues cool inside with door slightly open for 1 hour.
