- 4 small round loaves of bread (sourdough or Italian)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
- For the spaghetti:
- 8 oz spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut tops off bread loaves and hollow out the centers to create bowls, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Mix softened butter with minced garlic, oregano, garlic powder, and salt. Spread inside and outside of bread bowls.
- Place bread bowls on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- Cook spaghetti according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion for 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes until sauce thickens.
- Add cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat. Stir in Parmesan and simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Spoon the spaghetti mixture into garlic bread bowls and garnish with fresh basil and extra Parmesan if desired.
Notes
- Add cooked ground meat to the sauce for a hearty version.
- Incorporate vegetables like zucchini or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
- Top with mozzarella or provolone before baking for a cheesy finish.
- To reheat, bake bread bowls at 350°F for 5-7 minutes; microwave spaghetti separately.
