Description

Spicy Cajun Shrimp Puff Pastry Squares are flaky, buttery appetizers topped with tender Cajun-seasoned shrimp and a creamy cheese filling for a bold and elegant bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry slightly and cut into even squares. Place on the prepared baking sheet and lightly score a smaller square inside each without cutting through. Brush the edges with beaten egg.
  3. Toss the shrimp with olive oil, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and paprika until evenly coated.
  4. Cook the shrimp in a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and cooked through. Remove from heat and chop into small pieces.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, shredded cheese, and green onions until combined.
  6. Spoon a small amount of the cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square.
  7. Top with chopped Cajun shrimp.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add diced red bell pepper for extra color and sweetness.
  • Sprinkle cayenne pepper for additional heat.
  • Drizzle honey or squeeze fresh lemon juice before serving for contrast.
  • Reduce cheese filling and add sautéed spinach for a lighter option.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes to restore crispness.
