State Fair Lemonade is a nostalgic, vibrant summer drink made with whole lemons, sugar, and water. It’s bold, tart, and sweet—perfect for cooling down on a hot day and tastes just like the classic fairground favorite.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 large lemons
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash the lemons thoroughly and cut each into quarters.
  2. Place lemon quarters and sugar into a large mixing bowl or pitcher.
  3. Mash the lemons and sugar together with a wooden spoon or muddler for several minutes to extract juice and oils from the peel.
  4. Add the cold water and stir well.
  5. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes.
  6. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pitcher to remove pulp, seeds, and peel.
  7. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon slices if desired.

Notes

  • Use club soda instead of water for a sparkling version.
  • Add berries or mint while mashing for flavored lemonade.
  • Reduce sugar for a tarter taste.
  • Blend with ice for a frozen lemonade treat.
  • Stir well before serving chilled lemonade from the fridge.
