Description
A delectable appetizer featuring creamy brie cheese wrapped in flaky puff pastry and baked to golden perfection. This elegant baked brie puff pastry dish is perfect for entertaining or a cozy night in, offering a warm, gooey center with a crisp, buttery crust.
Ingredients
Puff Pastry
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed
Cheese
- 8 ounces of brie cheese, rind on
Extras
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: 2 tablespoons of fig jam or honey
- Optional: fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary) for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to fully preheat to ensure even baking of the puff pastry and cheese.
- Prepare the puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out any folds and slightly enlarge it, ensuring it can fully encase the brie.
- Add the cheese: Place the whole brie in the center of the puff pastry. If desired, spread fig jam or honey over the top of the brie for added flavor.
- Wrap the brie: Fold the puff pastry edges up and over the brie, pressing the seams to seal the cheese completely inside. Trim any excess pastry if needed for a neat package.
- Egg wash application: Brush the entire wrapped brie with the beaten egg to give it a shiny, golden finish during baking.
- Bake the brie: Place the wrapped brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Remove from oven and let the baked brie rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, then slice and serve warm with crackers or sliced baguette.
Notes
- Ensure the brie is fully enclosed in the puff pastry to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
- Let the baked brie rest briefly before slicing to avoid burning and to allow cheese to set slightly.
- This appetizer pairs well with fruit preserves, nuts, and a crisp white wine.
- For a twist, add chopped nuts or dried fruits on top of the cheese before wrapping.
