Ingredients
Baked Brie
- 1 wheel (8 oz) Brie cheese
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Blackberry Compote
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Spicy Candied Pecans
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions
- Prepare the Candied Pecans: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the pecans, sugar, cayenne pepper, and salt. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and coats the pecans evenly, about 4-5 minutes. Transfer pecans to parchment paper to cool and harden.
- Make the Blackberry Compote: In a small saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries break down and the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
- Prepare the Brie: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Place the wheel of Brie in the center. Top the Brie with half of the blackberry compote. Fold the pastry around the Brie, sealing edges with beaten egg. Brush the outside with the remaining egg wash.
- Bake the Brie: Place the wrapped Brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Serve: Transfer the baked Brie to a serving platter. Spoon remaining blackberry compote over the top. Sprinkle the spicy candied pecans generously around and on top. Serve warm with crackers or sliced baguette.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blackberries; thaw frozen before cooking.
- Adjust cayenne pepper in pecans to taste for more or less heat.
- Let the baked Brie rest before cutting to avoid losing the cheese filling.
- Puff pastry can be found in the frozen section; thaw completely before use.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
