Perfectly golden on the outside and irresistibly gooey on the inside, it offers a handheld savory treat that combines freshness and rich flavors for a satisfying morning meal or snack.
Ingredients
For the Stuffed Baguette
- 1 large baguette
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 large bell pepper, diced (red, yellow, or green)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced bell pepper and chopped onion, sautéing for about 5 minutes until they soften and develop a slight caramelization. Stir in the minced garlic, and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
- Prepare the Baguette: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette lengthwise without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket to hold the filling.
- Stuff the Baguette: Spread the softened butter evenly on the inside of the baguette. Layer the sautéed vegetables inside, and then sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella evenly over the vegetables. Close the baguette gently to keep the filling inside.
- Bake the Baguette: Wrap the stuffed baguette loosely in aluminum foil to retain moisture and place it on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese has melted thoroughly and the bread is crispy on the outside.
- Serve: Remove the foil and let the baguette cool slightly. Slice into portions and serve warm for a cheesy, peppery breakfast treat.
Notes
- You can use any variety of cheese, such as Monterey Jack or pepper jack, for extra flavor.
- Adding cooked sausage or bacon bits to the filling can make it heartier.
- Use fresh baguette for best texture and taste.
- Wrap the baguette properly to avoid drying during baking.
- For a spicier kick, add chopped jalapeños to the filling.
