Description

These Coffee Caramel Swirl Brownies are a decadent treat that perfectly combine rich chocolate with the bold flavor of coffee and the luscious sweetness of caramel. With a fudgy texture and an irresistible swirl design, they make an impressive dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules

Caramel Swirl

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the brownies.
  2. Make Coffee Mixture for Batter: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 1 tablespoon of hot water to create a strong coffee mixture; set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir well until smooth and glossy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and the cooled coffee mixture.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and all-purpose flour.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
  6. Prepare Caramel Coffee Swirl: In a small bowl, mix the caramel sauce with the instant coffee granules until smooth.
  7. Assemble in Pan: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Dollop half of the caramel coffee mixture over the batter. Pour remaining brownie batter on top. Add the rest of the caramel coffee mixture on top in dollops.
  8. Create Swirls: Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the caramel through the batter to create a marbled effect—do not over-swirl.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs but not wet batter.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares. This ensures clean slices and enhanced flavor development.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and caramel sauce for the best flavor.
  • You can substitute espresso powder for instant coffee for a more intense coffee flavor.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking blend.
  • Allow brownies to cool completely before slicing to avoid crumbling.
