These savory and sweet treats combine creamy Brie cheese with tart cranberry sauce, all nestled in flaky puff pastry. Quick to assemble and baked to golden perfection, they offer a delicious balance of flavors and a festive touch to any appetizer spread.
Ingredients
For the Cranberry Brie Bites
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz Brie cheese, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup cranberry sauce
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Optional Garnishes
- Fresh rosemary sprigs
- Chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for the puff pastry to rise and bake evenly.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into 12 equal squares large enough to fit into a mini muffin tin.
- Assemble the Bites: Place each puff pastry square into the cups of a mini muffin tin, pressing down gently to form a cup shape. Add a piece of Brie cheese into each cup, followed by about a teaspoon of cranberry sauce.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the exposed edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg to help them achieve a golden, shiny finish once baked.
- Bake: Bake the assembled bites in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the Brie is melted.
- Cool and Garnish: Remove the bites from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Optionally, garnish with fresh rosemary sprigs or a sprinkle of chopped nuts for added texture and aroma.
- Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature as an elegant appetizer for holiday parties, brunches, or casual get-togethers.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is properly thawed to avoid cracking when shaped.
- If Brie rind is thick, you may trim it to make easier bites.
- Use either homemade or canned cranberry sauce based on availability.
- These bites are best served fresh but can be reheated lightly before serving.
- Variations include adding a small dollop of fig jam or a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top for extra flavor.
