These Crispy Shrimp Patties are golden, juicy, and irresistibly crunchy, making for a perfect appetizer or main dish. Crafted with fresh shrimp mixed with flavorful seasonings and coated in a crispy breading, they offer a delightful crunch with every bite. Perfectly pan-fried to achieve that golden exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy, these shrimp patties are a crowd-pleaser for any seafood lover.

Ingredients

Shrimp Mixture

  • 1 lb fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Breading and Coating

  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for dredging)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil, about 1/2 inch depth for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Finely chop the fresh shrimp or pulse them in a food processor until coarsely ground. Be careful not to over-process; the mixture should have small chunks for texture.
  2. Make the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro. Add the egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well incorporated and sticky enough to form patties.
  3. Shape the Patties: With clean hands, form the mixture into patties about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. This recipe should make approximately 8 shrimp patties.
  4. Prepare the Breading Stations: Place flour in one shallow dish, beaten egg in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third.
  5. Bread the Patties: Dredge each patty first in the flour, shaking off excess, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat evenly with the panko breadcrumbs. Set aside on a plate.
  6. Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a heavy skillet to about 1/2 inch depth. Heat over medium-high heat until shimmering and a small breadcrumb dropped in the oil sizzles immediately.
  7. Fry the Patties: Carefully place the patties into the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the patties are golden brown and crispy on the outside and cooked through inside. Adjust the heat as necessary to avoid burning.
  8. Drain and Serve: Remove the fried patties and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as tartar sauce, aioli, or sweet chili sauce.

Notes

  • For best texture, use fresh shrimp instead of frozen. If using frozen, thaw completely and pat dry before chopping.
  • Do not over-process the shrimp to keep a satisfying texture in the patties.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, increase cayenne pepper or add finely chopped jalapeño into the mixture.
  • You can bake these patties in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-18 minutes as a healthier alternative, flipping halfway through.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to get a crispy crust without excess oiliness.
