Description

Deviled Strawberries are a delightful twist on the classic deviled egg appetizer, replacing eggs with fresh strawberries filled with a sweet, creamy custard-like mixture. This recipe combines the natural sweetness of strawberries with a rich filling made from cream cheese, whipped cream, and a hint of vanilla, making it a perfect bite-sized dessert or party treat.

Ingredients

Strawberries

  • 1 pint fresh strawberries

Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Rinse the strawberries gently under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Using a small paring knife, slice off the green leafy tops of the strawberries. Then, carefully hollow out the center of each strawberry using a melon baller or small spoon, creating a cavity for the filling.
  2. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy using a hand mixer or whisk. Add vanilla extract and lemon juice for flavor and mix well. In a separate chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined and fluffy.
  3. Fill the Strawberries: Transfer the filling into a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with one corner cut off. Pipe the cream cheese mixture into each hollowed strawberry until well filled and slightly overflowing, mimicking the look of classic deviled eggs.
  4. Chill and Serve: Place the filled strawberries on a serving platter and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the filling to set and flavors to meld. Serve chilled as an elegant appetizer or sweet snack at parties or gatherings.

Notes

  • You can substitute mascarpone cheese for cream cheese for a milder flavor.
  • Add finely chopped fresh herbs like mint or basil to the filling for an herby twist.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan cream cheese and coconut cream.
  • Serve immediately after filling if not refrigerating, as strawberries release juice over time.
