Description

Dorito Taco Pie is a fun and flavorful twist on classic taco night, combining the crunchy zest of Doritos with a savory seasoned beef filling and melted cheese. This comforting casserole layers crushed Doritos with seasoned ground beef, tomato sauce, and a blend of cheeses, baked to golden perfection for a deliciously crispy, gooey dish perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Beef Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For the Pie

  • 1 large bag (about 10 oz) Nacho Cheese Doritos, crushed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Optional toppings: sliced olives, jalapeños, chopped green onions, sour cream, guacamole

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef filling: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with diced onions and minced garlic until fully cooked and no pink remains. Drain excess fat. Add taco seasoning and water, stirring well to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes, then stir in tomato sauce and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking the pie.
  3. Assemble the pie: In a greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish, spread a layer of crushed Doritos to cover the bottom evenly. Spoon half of the seasoned beef mixture over the chips. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the beef. Add another layer of crushed Doritos, followed by the remaining beef and cheeses, distributing evenly.
  4. Bake the pie: Place the assembled pie in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and starting to turn golden brown around the edges.
  5. Cool and serve: Let the pie rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers to set and makes serving easier. Add optional toppings like sliced olives, jalapeños, green onions, sour cream, or guacamole if desired, then serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier pie, use spicy Doritos or add extra jalapeños.
  • To make this meal vegetarian, substitute ground beef with cooked lentils, seasoned mushrooms, or a plant-based meat alternative.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • For extra crispiness, sprinkle a few crushed Doritos on top before baking.
  • Use fresh cheese for better melting and flavor.
