Description

Enjoy a simple yet flavorful Easy Maple Sesame Salmon recipe that combines sweet maple syrup and nutty sesame to create a delicious glaze. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, this dish features tender, flaky salmon fillets cooked to perfection with a balanced blend of sweet and savory flavors.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each), skin on
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Maple Sesame Glaze

  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thicker glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and black pepper. This ensures the fish has a good base flavor and will help develop a nice sear.
  2. Make the Maple Sesame Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and rice vinegar. This mixture combines sweet, salty, and tangy notes essential for a well-rounded glaze.
  3. Cook the Salmon: Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the salmon fillets skin side down in the hot pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes without moving them to get a crispy skin, then carefully flip the fillets and cook for an additional 3 minutes until cooked through and flaky.
  4. Glaze the Salmon: Reduce heat to medium-low. Pour the maple sesame glaze over the salmon in the skillet. If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1-2 minutes until the glaze thickens and coats the salmon nicely.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the glazed salmon. Serve immediately with your favorite sides such as steamed rice or sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
  • You can bake the salmon at 400°F (200°C) for 12-15 minutes if you prefer not to use a skillet.
  • Adjust maple syrup quantity according to your sweetness preference.
  • Fresh ginger enhances flavor, but ground ginger can be used in a pinch.
  • Ensure not to overcook salmon to keep it moist and tender.
