Description

These Garlic Butter Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy, and infused with rich garlic butter flavor, making them a perfect side for any dinner. Easy to prepare, they bake to a golden brown perfection with a delicious buttery garlic topping that will have everyone reaching for seconds.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active and ready.
  2. Prepare the dough: Add melted butter, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
  3. Add flour: Gradually mix in the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the rolls: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each roll.
  6. Second rise: Cover the rolls loosely with a towel and let them rise again for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Prepare garlic butter topping: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, salt, and chopped parsley. Set aside.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  9. Brush with garlic butter: Immediately after removing from the oven, brush the rolls generously with the garlic butter mixture. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add grated Parmesan cheese to the garlic butter topping.
  • To keep rolls soft, cover with a clean kitchen towel while cooling.
  • These rolls freeze well; thaw and warm before serving.
  • If you prefer more garlic flavor, increase the garlic cloves to 4 or 5.
  • Use warm milk to activate yeast without killing it; avoid overheating.
