Ingredients
Cupcake Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
Buttercream Frosting Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2–4 tablespoons whole milk
- Food coloring (orange, black, white, green)
- Edible decorations like candy eyes, chocolate chips, sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners to prevent sticking and for easy removal.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes using a hand or stand mixer.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture alternately with the milk into the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fill Cupcake Liners: Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full to allow room for rising.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool Completely: Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
- Make Buttercream Frosting: Beat the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Add vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk. Continue beating until light and fluffy. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
- Color the Frosting: Divide the frosting into separate bowls and tint each with desired food coloring for Halloween themes—orange for pumpkins, black for spiders, white for ghosts, green for accents.
- Decorate Cupcakes: Using piping bags fitted with decorative nozzles, frost the cupcakes. Use themed designs like pumpkin faces with orange frosting and black details, white ghosts with candy eyes, and spiders with black frosting and candy legs. Add edible decorations as desired.
- Serve and Enjoy: Display your Halloween cupcakes at parties or gatherings and enjoy the festive flavors and fun designs!
