Description

A warm and comforting baked fruit dessert made with tender apples and pears, cozy spices, and sweet caramelized juices. This wholesome dish is naturally sweet, easy to prepare, and perfect for dessert, breakfast, or a seasonal side dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 apples, peeled and sliced
  • 3 pears, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Peel and slice the apples and pears into even pieces.
  3. Place the fruit into the prepared baking dish and drizzle with lemon juice.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ground ginger.
  5. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the fruit.
  6. Dot the top with small pieces of butter and drizzle with maple syrup or honey.
  7. Scatter the chopped nuts and raisins or dried cranberries over the fruit.
  8. Bake for 35 minutes or until the fruit is soft, golden, and bubbling.
  9. Allow the baked fruit to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add oats on top for a crispier crumble-like texture.
  • Cloves or cardamom add extra warmth and depth of flavor.
  • Serve with yogurt, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for a richer dessert.
  • Reduce the sugar for a lighter and naturally sweeter version.
  • Firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work best for baking.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
