Description

A flavorful Spicy Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza featuring a homemade pizza dough base topped with rich marinara sauce, gooey whole milk mozzarella, spicy Italian sausage, and classic pepperoni slices, baked to crispy perfection in just 23 minutes.

Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 recipe for pizza dough blend

Toppings

  • 3/4 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 cups freshly grated whole milk mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 pound spicy Italian sausage (cooked and crumbled into smaller bits with a wooden spoon)
  • Pepperoni slices (amount as desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450 °F (232 °C) and lightly flour a 13-inch pizza pan to prevent sticking.
  2. Shape Dough: Using your hands, gently stretch the pizza dough into the prepared pan ensuring an even thickness and shaping it to fit the pan.
  3. Layer Toppings: Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the freshly grated mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Next, distribute the cooked and crumbled spicy Italian sausage evenly over the cheese, followed by an ample amount of pepperoni slices.
  4. Bake Pizza: Place the assembled pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-13 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and the crust turns a golden brown with crispy edges.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes to set the toppings and make slicing easier. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Cooking the sausage beforehand ensures it is fully cooked and crumbled nicely for topping.
  • Adjust the amount of pepperoni according to your preference for spiciness and flavor.
  • Using whole milk mozzarella gives a rich, creamy melt but can be substituted with part-skim mozzarella for a lighter option.
  • Allowing the pizza to rest after baking helps the cheese set and improves slicing.
  • If you prefer a crispier crust, consider baking directly on a pizza stone or steel if available.
