Ingredients
Spicy Tuna Filling
- 8 oz sushi-grade tuna, finely diced
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Sriracha sauce
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp green onions, finely chopped
Hand Roll Components
- 4 large nori sheets, cut in half
- 1 cup cooked sushi rice
- 1/2 cucumber, julienned
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- Pickled ginger and wasabi, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spicy Tuna: In a bowl, combine the diced tuna, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Chill in the refrigerator while you prepare the other ingredients.
- Prepare the Rice: Ensure your sushi rice is cooked, seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, and slightly cooled but still sticky for easy handling.
- Assemble the Hand Rolls: Lay a half nori sheet on a clean flat surface. With wet hands, spread a thin layer of sushi rice diagonally across one corner of the nori, leaving an edge for sealing.
- Add Filling: Place a spoonful of spicy tuna mixture on the rice, followed by some cucumber julienne and avocado slices.
- Roll the Temaki: Starting at the filled corner, roll the nori diagonally into a cone shape, sealing the edge with a little water if needed. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the hand rolls. Serve immediately with pickled ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce on the side.
Notes
- Use sushi-grade tuna to ensure freshness and safety.
- Keep your hands moist while handling sushi rice to prevent sticking.
- Assembling hand rolls just before serving ensures the nori stays crisp.
- Adjust the amount of Sriracha to control the spiciness.
- You can substitute the tuna with other fresh seafood like salmon or crab meat if preferred.
