Description
A fresh and vibrant strawberry salsa made with sweet strawberries, tangy balsamic vinegar, fresh herbs, and citrus for a refreshing appetizer, topping, or side dish perfect for warm weather meals.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, diced
- 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Wash, hull, and dice the strawberries into small pieces.
- Finely chop the red onion, basil, and mint.
- In a medium bowl, combine the diced strawberries, chopped onion, basil, and mint.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, lime juice, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour the dressing over the strawberry mixture and gently toss until evenly combined.
- Let the salsa sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend before serving.
Notes
- Add diced avocado for a creamier texture and richer flavor.
- Mix in finely chopped jalapeño or red pepper flakes for a spicy variation.
- Add cucumber, mango, or peaches for additional freshness and sweetness.
- Sprinkle crumbled feta cheese on top for a savory twist.
- Fresh strawberries work best because frozen strawberries become watery when thawed.
- Use ripe but firm strawberries to prevent excess liquid.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Stir the salsa before serving again since the strawberries release juice over time.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture.
