Description

Street Cart Salsa is a vibrant and tangy Mexican-style condiment bursting with fresh flavors. Combining ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs, and bright lime juice, this salsa is perfect for adding a zesty kick to tacos, chips, grilled meats, and more. Easy to prepare and versatile, it’s a staple in street food cuisine, bringing authentic taste to any meal.

Ingredients

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1 small white onion, finely chopped
  • 1–2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and minced (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced

Seasonings & Liquids

  • Juice of 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Salt to taste (about 1/2 teaspoon)
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vegetables: Rinse the tomatoes, onion, jalapeños, and cilantro thoroughly. Finely dice the tomatoes and onion, mince the garlic, seed and mince the jalapeños to control heat, and chop the cilantro leaves.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a medium bowl, add the diced tomatoes, onion, jalapeños, minced garlic, and cilantro. Gently mix to combine the ingredients evenly.
  3. Add lime juice and season: Squeeze fresh lime juice over the salsa mixture. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir everything well to incorporate the flavors.
  4. Let flavors meld: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the ingredients to blend and develop a fuller flavor.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Give the salsa a final stir before serving. Serve it chilled or at room temperature alongside tortilla chips, tacos, grilled meats, or use it as a fresh topping for various dishes.

Notes

  • For a smokier flavor, roast the tomatoes and jalapeños on a grill or stovetop before dicing.
  • Adjust the heat level by adding more or fewer jalapeños or substituting with milder peppers like poblano.
  • This salsa is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To make it spicier, include some of the jalapeño seeds or add a dash of hot sauce.
  • Use fresh, ripe tomatoes for the best flavor and texture.
