Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or hot coffee
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease and line a cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Slowly add hot water or coffee, stirring until the batter is smooth and slightly thin.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan briefly, then transfer to a rack to cool completely before serving or frosting.
Notes
- Hot coffee enhances the chocolate flavor without making the cake taste like coffee.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake tender.
- Add chocolate chips for extra richness.
