Ingredients
Flatbread Base
- 1 large flatbread (10–12 inches)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Steak and Seasoning
- 8 ounces flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking steak)
Caprese Toppings
- 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
- 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
- Fresh basil leaves (about 12 leaves)
- 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Steak: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Season steak slices with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook the steak for 2-3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to medium-rare or desired doneness. Remove from heat and set aside to rest.
- Prepare the Flatbread: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the flatbread on a baking sheet and brush lightly with 1 tablespoon olive oil to help it crisp during baking.
- Assemble the Flatbread: Arrange the cooked steak slices evenly over the flatbread, then layer the sliced fresh mozzarella and tomato slices on top. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- Bake the Flatbread: Place the assembled flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the flatbread edges are golden and crispy.
- Add Fresh Basil and Balsamic Glaze: Remove the flatbread from the oven and immediately scatter fresh basil leaves on top. Drizzle with balsamic glaze evenly across the flatbread for a sweet and tangy finish.
- Serve: Slice into pieces and serve warm as a gourmet appetizer or light meal that highlights the perfect combination of steak and classic Caprese flavors.
Notes
- Use a high-quality balsamic glaze for best flavor balance.
- Flank steak is preferred for its tenderness when sliced thin, but sirloin works well too.
- To save time, use pre-cooked steak or leftover steak slices.
- Fresh mozzarella is ideal, but burrata cheese can be substituted for extra creaminess.
- For a crispier crust, you can toast the flatbread briefly before adding toppings.
